The local NAACP asked Ben Jealous, Sierra Club’s national leader, if he was willing to acquiesce to Chevron. He said no. (Pam Marino, Monterey County Now). Ben Jealous has not gotten everything right (see union busting at the Sierra Club) and this article may be an effort to draw some positive press, but it's nice to see an environmental organization lead stick to their principles.

Watching the news coming out of western North Carolina and the other parts of the Southeast that were destroyed by Hurricane Helene this week has been pretty horrific. I’ve got ties to the region - I went to college there, got married there, and have many friends still in the area. Seeing images of my college town’s main street in international news outlets due to the flooding there was not a great experience. Fortunately, my friends are all ok, but many people are not. If you can support the relief efforts, please contribute what you can.
