2024, Issue 39
It was a tough week for anyone who cares about maintaining a livable planet and climate. Better writers than I have spilled a lot of ink writing about the U.S. election, and I link to some of their work below. The truth is, the project of social change and infrastructure engineering needed to end carbon emissions was never going to be easy. This week made it a bit harder. But every tenth of a degree matters, and we’ve got to continue the work. Take care of yourself however you need to. The work will be here. I’m going to reflect on ways to build community both here on the newsletter and in real life. We’re going to need strong communities to get through the storms ahead. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
What I'm reading this week:
Climate Initiatives Fare Well Across the Country Despite National Political Climate (Lee Hedgepeth, Kristoffer Tigue, Lisa Sorg, Liza Gross, Martha Pskowski, Wyatt Myskow, InsideClimate News)
On the Benefits of Changing One's Mind in Public (Amy Westervelt, Drilled)
1.5C is dead. The climate fight isn’t. (Arielle Samuelson, Heated)
Environmental (in)justice articles of the week:
Regulators OK Duke Energy’s gas-plant buildout despite N.C. climate law (Elizabeth Ouzts, Canary Media). This article definitely falls more on the injustice side.
