Hi there! Welcome to Ed’s Clean Energy & Sustainability Jobs List, where we know climate change is caused by burning fossil fuels such as gasoline, coal, oil, and fossil gas (“natural” gas), and that burning fossil gas in our homes makes us sick.
There are 66 jobs and internships in the full version of the newsletter this week. This week I heard from 4 people who found new jobs!

What I'm reading this week:
AirNow.gov Where I live in Colorado, our air quality has been pretty crummy all week (really all summer) and this website helps me keep an eye on what's going on in the air outside. As bad as our air has been, it's been 2-3 times worse in the Northwest. Relatedly, I’ll share again how to make a Corsi-Rosenthal Box. A Corsi-Rosenthal Box is a simple, effective way to build an inexpensive air filter with a box fan and widely available filters used for HVAC systems. Your gas car works fine. Consider an EV anyway, scientists say (Tik Root, Grist). Many folks I know believe, understandably, that it's better to keep an old gas car going because it takes material and energy along with the associated emissions, to make a new electric vehicle. A University of California Santa Cruz Professor heard people saying the same thing and decided to find out if it was true. What he found upends that conventional wisdom.
Battery storage capacity averaged 70% growth over the last three years (U.S. Energy Information Administration Staff, Today in Energy) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have been growing rapidly in the U.S. over the last three years according to the Energy Information Administration. Most BESS are being deployed at solar farms. Deploying BESS with solar allows the power plant owner to bank electricity at mid-day when solar is plentiful and cheap and sell it later in the day when the electricity is more valuable. This also allows BESS to displace dirty, inefficient gas peaker plants from the system, reducing electricity costs and pollution. Exciting stuff!
Environmental (in)justice articles of the week:
DOJ’s Environmental Enforcement Has Collapsed in the Second Trump Administration, Former Attorneys Say (Dana Drugmand, Inside Climate News). While I doubt that anyone would argue that the U.S. Department of Justice has a sparkling environmental justice record, most would agree that an 79-81% drop in environment actions is definitely a step in the wrong direction.
